Lewis Carroll Explains "Jabberwocky"

Now, you may wonder just quite what I've done;
This poem, it would seem to make no sense.
But writing senseless jargon is quite fun,
And so is painting black a picket fence.

Myself, I can excuses formulate,
Explaining why I cannot write good prose.
But honest: even I myself berate
This lawless use of words that no one knows.

Have I just cause to go on prating so?
Do mindless words affect the human race?
Take note: a man, disguised from nape to toe,
Can still be known by looking at his face.

Indeed, from this a sense one can divorce;
This text is a reflection of its source.The Compendium
