Documentation for v. 0.9.5.1
M3u to HTML Converter makes posting your playlist on the Web an easy task. Create an m3u playlist using your favorite program (Winamp, etc.) and M3u to HTML Converter's highly configurable process provides you with useful HTML with a few clicks.
M3u to HTML Converter is freeware, licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial 3.0 License. My only request is that if you use this program, you leave the line at the bottom of your HTML that says "Created (time) (date) using M3u to HTML Converter by Zach Bardon." You can obviously edit the line out without me tracking you, but it would be nice for me if you could leave the line in there. I've tried to make it fairly inconspicuous for you. (Plus, you can alter the appearance of the line using CSS – it's in its own <p class="converterinfo"> tag.)
M3u to HTML Converter is as easy to use as they come! Here's a screenshot:
Note that filenames have been selected for Source File and Destination Filename. To select from existing files, click the "..." buttons. The Source File is an existing .m3u file that the Converter will use to generate the HTML. The Destination Filename is the name and location of the file that the Converter will generate.
After you select filenames for the source and destination, but before you create the HTML, you should make sure the Converter is configured to your liking. Many options are available to configure the HTML the Converter will generate. Clicking the Options button displays this window:
Here's an explanation of each of these options:
Artist | ||
Title 1 | (length, if included) | (file type, if included) |
Title 2 | (length, if included) | (file type, if included) |
This table repeats for each artist. Each cell (the <td> tag) is created with its own class tag, making it easy to alter the table's appearance using CSS (a sample .css file "mp3list.css" is included in the program directory). The classes used are
Artist: class="artist"
Title 1: class="title1"
Length 1: class="length1"
File type 1: class="type1"
Title 2: class="title0"
Length 2: class="length0"
File type 2: class="type0"
All even-numbered titles are given a class ending in "0", whereas all odd-numbered titles are given a class ending in "1." This allows you to alternate the cell colors using CSS, if you choose.
* Use unordered lists and Use table cannot both be selected. If neither is selected, Converter will generate a basic HTML document using <p> and <br> tags.
Once you configure the Converter to your liking, click OK to save your options. It will remember your options even after you close the program. Now you can click Create HTML to generate your file! If you want to see a simple text list of the files in your playlist, click the Text List button. This displays a simple text list, but does not generate a file!
Clicking the Update loads the Converter, automatically converts your most recent file, and then automatically closes the Converter. It is best to have the Automatically overwrite option selected if you plan on running the Update. If you have not run the Converter before, running Update will not work, because no filenames are selected.
The Converter will generate HTML in the same order as the m3u file, and does not have sorting capabilities. Most programs that generate m3u playlists already have excellent sorting ability, so it is not included in the Converter.
